Why the AI backlash has turned violent
Brian Merchant has a nice explanation for the recent violence against OpenAI's Sam Altman. He argues that it's pretty simple:
- The AI elite are marketing their product with promises of mass layoffs.
- The AI corporations are actively lobbying against any constraints on their efforts.
- Several of their leading spokespeople claim a superAI will lead to the end of humanity.
- People see data centers being crammed down their throats.
